About our garage door tune-ups service

A garage door tune-up is a preventive service that inspects, adjusts, tightens, lubricates, and tests every moving part of your door and opener. Think of it as an oil change for the largest moving part of your house — small, cheap, and it prevents the big, expensive failures.

The average garage door cycles 3-5 times per day. Over a year, that's 1,000-1,800 cycles. Every cycle stretches springs, wears rollers, loosens fasteners, and drifts sensor alignment by tiny amounts. Left alone, those tiny changes compound into a broken spring on a Monday morning or a door that won't close because a sensor got bumped last week.

Momentum's tune-up is a 25-point service. Our technician inspects torsion springs and calculates remaining cycle life, tightens every fastener on the door and tracks, lubricates hinges / bearings / rollers / springs with lithium-based garage door lube, aligns and tests photo-eye safety sensors, calibrates opener force limits and auto-reverse, tests the door's balance manually, and gives you a written report on what's aging so nothing is a surprise later.

We recommend a tune-up once a year for average residential use, twice a year for busy households (10+ cycles per day) or homes near the coast. It's the single highest-ROI service in our catalog — a $89 visit that routinely prevents $300-$700 spring / opener / cable failures.

What our neighbors say

Common issues we fix

Symptoms that mean it's time to call

These are the issues our Charlotte-area technicians diagnose most often on this service call.

Squeaks and grinding noises

Almost always fixed by proper lubrication and roller inspection — never use WD-40, it dries out and attracts grit.

Door reversing when it shouldn't

Photo-eye sensor drift, dirty lenses, or opener force limits set too sensitive. All caught in a tune-up.

Springs losing tension

We measure spring cycle life and warn you before failure — replacing a spring on your schedule beats an emergency call.

Loose bolts throughout the door

Vibration works fasteners loose over hundreds of cycles. Retorquing prevents hinges from tearing panel skin.

Track alignment drift

Framing settles, tracks shift, and rollers start rubbing. A tune-up straightens tracks before rollers wear prematurely.

Opener chain / belt tension off

Loose chains slap the rail; over-tight belts wear the motor. We adjust to spec.

Our repair process

What to expect from your service visit

  1. 1

    Visual inspection & consult

Tech walks the door and asks about any noises, quirks, or slow-downs you've noticed since the last visit.

  2. 2

    Hardware check & retorque

Every bracket, hinge, and roller stem is inspected. Loose fasteners are tightened; stripped ones are replaced.

  3. 3

    Spring cycle-life measurement

We calculate remaining spring life based on cone stamp, cycle count, and visible wear so you know when to plan a replacement.

  4. 4

    Full lubrication

Lithium-based garage door lube on hinges, rollers, bearings, springs, and opener rail. Never petroleum grease — it hardens.

  5. 5

    Safety system test

Photo eyes are cleaned and aligned, auto-reverse is tested with a 2x4 obstruction, force limits are calibrated on the opener.

  6. 6

    Written report & recommendations

You get a report of what was done, what's aging, and estimated timeline for future service. No pressure — just information.

Warranty coverage

Tune-ups themselves don't require a warranty — but any repair performed during a tune-up (spring replacement, roller swap, cable, opener parts) carries our standard 1-year workmanship and parts warranty.

Annual maintenance plan members get 10% off any repair performed during the plan year, on top of the workmanship warranty.

If your door needs a repair within 30 days of a tune-up and we missed the underlying issue during inspection, the diagnosis fee is waived on the follow-up call.

Extended warranty upgrades on springs (3-year, 5-year, or lifetime cycle coverage) are available at the tune-up visit when springs are due for replacement.

Serving Charlotte and the Carolinas

Momentum Overhead Doors is headquartered in Charlotte, NC (ZIP 28217) and dispatches technicians throughout Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Union, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Catawba, Rowan, Stanly, and Anson counties in North Carolina, plus York, Lancaster, and Chester counties in South Carolina. Whether you live in Ballantyne, SouthPark, Uptown, University City, Steele Creek, Matthews, Mint Hill, Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson, or across the state line in Fort Mill, Rock Hill, Tega Cay, Indian Land, or Lake Wylie — we can be at your door the same day.

Charlotte's mix of humidity, sudden thunderstorms, and freeze/thaw cycles is hard on garage door hardware. Metal components corrode faster in the Carolina climate, spring cycles shorten under temperature swings, and sensor eyes get knocked out of alignment by summer storms. That's why we build our recommendations around real regional conditions instead of generic maintenance schedules.

Same-day service for emergencies. Non-emergency appointments in 1–2 days.
